Despite the efforts on the industry regulation, Vancouver’s authorities are getting closer to the prohibition of ATMs, which support Bitcoin and the other cryptocurrencies.
Local police think that the machines are a perfect way to launder money because any person can buy assets almost without additional fees.
Local legislation on money laundering fighting doesn’t spread on cryptomats, and this can bring harm to the economy according to the mayor’s opinion, who offered to prohibit the machines.
The possibility is thought over, and the report has to be introduced soon. There are about 60 such ATMs in the city now. The oldest Bitcoin-ATM, set in 2013, is located right here.
